Teacher and Parent Scaffolding of Voluntary Summer Reading

Lexile reader measures obtained from administration of the Iowa Test of Basic Skills were used to match students to books at their reading level and also as an outcome measure for a voluntary summer reading program.
Voluntary reading of books over the summer can enhance the reading achievement of ethnic minority students and reduce skill loss over the summer break if the books closely match students' reading levels and interests.
