Librarians

Librarians and media specialists know how important it is for young people to read and learn all year long. You are already experts at helping kids find books that they’re interested in reading. Now the Lexile “Find a Book” search can support your library’s reading programs to help children find books that match their reading abilities.

You can use this search to make free, individualized reading lists of books at a child’s reading level on topics that he or she is interested in. Just click “Find a Book” to start filling a Lexile BookBag together.

It’s simple -- tell us what kind of a reader a student is (or enter his or her Lexile measure if known), and select some of his or her areas of interest. We’ll show you lots of interesting books matched to a student’s Lexile reading range. Through WorldCat, you can quickly see if the books are in your library. Then you can go to the shelves and get the books.

“Find a Book” and Durham Public Schools
This year, MetaMetrics partnered with Durham Public Schools and the county libraries to encourage students to read over the summer. Each student received a custom Lexile map and directions on using the Find a Book Web site to select targeted summer reading materials. In the district’s latest Bright Ideas segment, Superintendent Dr. Carl Harris explains how Durham schools used Lexiles to help students select books that matched their unique reading abilities.
