How to make BookBags for your classroom

One powerful way to use the “Find a Book with Lexiles” site is to send your students home for the summer with reading lists in hand. You can fill and print as many Lexile BookBags as you need to encourage your students to keep reading. Just click “Find a Book” to get started.

Reading Ability + Interest Areas = A Great Reading List!

You already may have grouped your students into developmental reading groups (typically below-grade, average, and above-grade). If your students have Lexile measures from their end-of-grade test or from another assessment product in use in your school, then you can fill BookBags based on their Lexile measures. If you do not currently use Lexiles in your school, then use your students’ grade level and reading group.

Next, survey your students on the subjects that they like to read about. You could even make a handout with the subject categories in our Lexile BookBag search (see below). When you use our site you could make a BookBag per subject area. The Lexile BookBag is as flexible as you want it to be.

Finally, print out your BookBags and send them home with your students. You can check to see if the books you select are in the local library. Then students can take their BookBag to the library or bookstore to find their books and read all summer.
