How to get Lexiles in your library
Librarians and media specialists can incorporate Lexiles into their catalogs through
services offered by leading database service providers. Visit our “Library Resources
(hyperlink to: ) page for detailed information.
Lexile shelves
Another way that school and public librarians and media specialists use Lexiles
is to arrange “Lexile shelves” by 100L zones. This is particularly helpful in states
where students get a Lexile measure from their end-of-grade test. You can use our
Lexile BookBag search to help develop Lexile shelves.
Please see our fact sheet “Lexiles
in the Library” for other tips on using Lexiles in your library or media
center. Also see our
Lexile Map (in the “Tools” section of the Lexile Framework web site) lists
well-known books in each Lexile zone from 200L – such as Syd Hoff’s Danny and the
Dinosaur (Scholastic) – up to 1700L – such as Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s collected
letters (Clarendon Press). You can purchase a poster-sized, color Lexile Map for
your library wall. It gives you a sense of the framework overall.
